The Thyroid Gland

The thyroid gland gets its name from the Greek word “thureus” which means “shield” because it is composed of two lobes or sides each with the shape of a shield .  The thyroid  manufactures hormones from dietary iodine and releases them into the blood-stream. Thyroid Surgery/ Thyroidectomy
